After watching The Great Gabbo it brought to mind other films of dummies and madness. I think HBO showed Magic when I was young but it seemed really boring to a nine-year old me. A popular subject explored in TV and films there are no shortage of examples. Michael Redgrave arguably has the crown as the king of mad ventriloquists. Being in love with him since The Lady Vanishes I’ll agree. The whole film The Dead of Night is the hooray in elegant and intelligent horror. May that style live again.
