“You don’t love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.”

A quote attributed to Oscar Wilde but I have to stick with unknown at least for the “fancy car” part.  In any case la, la, la here.

  1. He died in 1900 so any automobiles around were fancy… and, the British never called them “cars.” Maybe he meant train cars?

    1. Maybe so. I just would hope that ‘cars’ weren’t a main status thing then but that’s the romantic in me. Since the quote attribution is not firmly set I kinda like to think that ‘car’ was added by someone else. If it’s a train compartment/ private car he is speaking of that’s a world of snobbery I haven’t even touched upon in my thought process. I’m sure it existed but golly.

  2. even if Wilde were alive today I doubt he would have ever said something so sentimental, his wit was sharp, like broken glass
