A tradition that has been in practice since the 19th century or at least recorded from that time. ‘If an eyelash comes out, put it on the back of the hand, wish, and throw it over the shoulder. If it leaves the hand the wish will come true’. Growing up a stray eyelash was an opportunity to dream and wish. I believed that it would come true. I still wish.
